Is it worth taking a career development course in college as a freshman?
Q. I'm deciding on whether or not I should take a 2 credit hour career development course in college. It does count towards my GPA, but I'm not sure if I should take such a course if I will only learn useless things. On the other hand, the course may open my eye up to some possible courses of study or majors, but it may just give me information I already know. What are your experiences with career development courses in college?

Q. Describe the components of a successful career development program in the field of criminal justice. Explain the nuances of the criminal justice field that hinder the development of career development programs. Describe the biggest gaps between theory and practice of career development from a law enforcement perspective.

A. Criminal justice is the system of , practices, and organizations, used by the federal, state and local governments, directed at maintaining social control, deter and controlling crime, and sanctioning those who violate laws with criminal penalties. The components of a successful career development program are a thorough understanding of all the laws with relevance to latest case laws and understanding of the difference between theory and practice !! The law enforcement agencies , as you have correctly guessed, many times are forced to stray away from the theory, but then, the practical approach must be made to appear as if the theory has NOT been violated !!!

Who is responsible for staff training and career development within a veterinary surgery?
Q. Hi, I'm studying an animal care course at college and in one of my assignments it asks a question "Who is responsible for staff training and career development?" Would anyone happen to know?
Asked by Lou - Mon Nov 3 10:04:52 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on each individual practice. If it's a small practice, often times it's the owner (usually a veterinarian). Even in larger practices, the owner is probably going to be the one in charge of the other vets at the very least. In larger practices there is usually someone called a practice manager who may or may not be a veterinarian. This person is usually in charge of the entire practice and managing everyone. Additionally, there may be departmental supervisors. Someone seperate who is in charge of the receptionists. Someone else in charge of the technicians and someone else who is in charge of the kennel employees. Those people would be responsible for training people in their respective departments At the clinic I… [cont.]

Q. I am a sophomore in college and very undecided about what career path I should head for. I am planning on trasfering on my junior year to take pharmacy classes. I am confuse about how this works. To become a license pharmacist one needs to years of college and four years of pharmacy school. But my question is: Since I already have two years down the road in an art school. Can I just transfer to a four year pharmacist school? Or will I still need to fulfill two years of pharmacy before entering into the four year program? Thank You!

What path should I take for a career in software development?
Q. I am thinking about possibly choosing software development as a career path. I have been in IT for a while and have dabbled in it, but never anything too serious. That said, I have a couple questions... What is the best thing to start studying when starting out? C++? Java? What can I do to get a sort of feel for it - to know if it's really what I want to do? Thanks Everyone!
Asked by blink281 - Fri Dec 7 10:43:46 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Java is good for starting out. It is very easy to learn and its syntax is modeled after C++ making it easy to later pick up C++. That said, you should study C++ after you have some experience with Java. C++ has many more diverse uses than Java, and would be a good thing to have on your resume. C++ is a bit more complex of a language though, so I wouldn't suggest trying to learn it until you have some of the programming basics down. One thing I suggest to everyone is to not get your mind locked on one language. Once you've picked up a couple and have some experience with programming, learning additional languages is easy. So keep your mind open to taking opportunities to learn new languages and technologies whenever you can. The… [cont.]

Anybody knows which state in US is best for living in terms of weather (warm), peace, and career development?
Q. I am now planning for an MBA course in US. I am really concerned about where to study and live. Any advice?
Asked by Tran Duc Truong - Wed Jan 14 04:30:44 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For warmth without much humidity, and a nice temperate climate, I'd have you look at California. If you want warmth, and you don't mind deserts, I'd have you look at Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Oklahoma and Texas. If you don't mind humidity, and want warmth, I'd have you look at Florida, and perhaps also at Louisiana, parts of Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina. As for peacefulness and lack of crime - each of these states are quite large, and a place like California is larger than most countries. Thus there is a huge variation in weather and culture and crime rate from one area to another. For example, crime may be high in one specific area of Los Angeles, but the area around Arcadia is extremely peaceful and beautiful. [cont.]

A. It's not a complete lie - get the right degree from the right University and you can get a very well paid job. However the Labour government has set targets for 50% of people to go to Uni. Clearly there aren't enough good jobs to go round half the population - so you are a victim of this policy.

A. You will stand a better chance if you can 'identify' with the company / interviewers .. Research the Company, try (as far as possible) to find out anything you can about who's interviewing you (ask the receptionist for names and preferred mode of address (calling a "Ms" Mrs. or a "Mrs" Ms. could sink your chances = get it right and you become a 'like minded person') .. and see if you can find out about their personal interests & hobbies ... if there's a Cricket fan, slip in a cricket phrase (I'm sure you know the drill == just like all SELLING, step 1 is "identify with the customer") One place I worked at, most of the 'Senior Management' were "model railway" enthusiasts (OK, it was hard to see if they only hired / promoted 'people like… [cont.]

A. I do not know where you will get one but would just comment that with a recession hovering just around the corner it is not exactly the best of times to be taking a loan, nor for that matter, is Boat Building likely to be the most sought after skill in the near future. When times are hard the first things to see the effects are luxury leisure goods.
